Documenting what matters most
1. Wear Something Comfortable
When considering what to wear for family photos, remember that you will be moving, sitting and standing. We will likely be moving across beaches, rocks, grass or logs. If clothing is tight or uncomfortable, it will show in your photos. Please remember the connection you share as a family is more important than your outfit!
2. Wear Clothes That Complement But Don’t Match
When planning what to wear to a family shoot, I recommend deciding on one outfit (usually mom) and then work from there. Rather than matching outfits, focus on color coordination. Choose a color theme if possible (for example navy/grey/cream) and work around that. Also decide whether you are going for a more casual or dressy look and weave that through your outfits.
3. Consider The Season When Choosing Clothing
When planning what to wear in family photos, think of the season. It is Spring? Softer pastel colors may be a good choice. Summer? Think white, yellow, bold red, orange, pink, turquoise, royal blue. Browns, mustard yellows, burnt orange, dark greens and purples are great for fall. Creams, brown, black, gray, ruby red, dark purple, emerald green or blue are good for winter shoots.
I hope these simple pointers help as you start to plan your family shoot clothing choices. I can’t wait to work with you!
